Firm to impose a single rate of excise duty to ouzo, and raki, similar to that which applies to alcoholic beverages, presented by the European Commission,….. despite the efforts made by the Government to freeze the increase to 2021.
Σύμφωνα με την απάντηση του Ευρωπαίου Επίτροπου Οικονομικών, Pierre Moskovisi, σε ερώτηση του Ελληνα ευρωβουλευτή, Manolis Kefalogianni, Greece will have to comply immediately with the judgment of the European Court.
The reason for today's answer gave the Commissioner of 9 October 2019 written question of MEP Manolis New Democracy Kefalogianni, stating that:
In his question Mr. Kefalogiannis said among other things that the Minister of Finance of Greece, Christos Staikouras, prompts delivery deadline for the compliance of Greek legislation to 31 August 2021, as already concluded the contracts for raw materials, which refer to the current minus 50% EFK rate from the normal rate. If immediate compliance, over 30.000 amvykouchoi weekend and distillers who have distillation license will face serious financial difficulties.
In this context, European Commissioner stated that "the Commission welcomes the decision of the Court of Justice on the excise tax on moonshine, as it considered that it can not be reduced rate applies for tsipouro and raki, since the Directive 92/834 does not provide for such reduced rates and Member- States may not adopt, at their discretion, schemes which derogate from the provisions of Directive 92/83 '. He added that the European Commission is closely monitoring developments to ensure that Greece will take the necessary measures to comply with the judgment of the Court.
