"The Greek Summer State Of Mind". The virtual reality of ND's tourism policy
Yesterday, the new campaign for the tourist promotion of Greece was presented, entitled "Restart Tourism" and admittedly watching the promotional spot, we wondered where Greece is, the real Greece, island Greece with beautiful images, the flavors, the colours, the experience of the senses……..
If we watched a narrative message that presents Greece as state of mind… reminding the international travel public that the Greek summer is not alone "Sun and sea", but it's something deeper, more true, more human. The Greek summer, is a psychological-emotional state that according to the message, anyone can experience it wherever it is , even from his place, as state o fmind… ( state of mind)!!
To recall the timeless saying "The medium is the message" (Marshall McLuhan), really what is the message that the Ministry of Tourism wants to pass on to foreign visitors;
"Enjoy the Greek summer wherever you are; Enjoy the Greek summer wherever you are ?», ie. stay at home, in your homelands and dream of the Greek bliss of the Greek summer not as an experience but as a fantasy!!
Finally, the Greek Ministry of Tourism, the ND government, they really want visitors from other countries to come this year or maybe artfully through the ‘misplaced’ , and random movements – such as the categorization of islands, their list 29 countries that are welcome in Greece– and now with the new campaign, they are trying in every way not to open the tourist season this year.
After all, acknowledge their inability to shield their destinations and want an easy solution , of discouraging visitors… This is an easy choice but at great cost to our country.
Let the competent minister answer us, Theocharis, what are the real intentions of the government and to stop the misplaced movements that only do damage to the destination… A damage of a timeless nature.
