New financial support, height 12 million. euro, provided the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy for support the adequate operation of the shipping network through shipping companies, thus ensuring the movement of passengers and goods between mainland and island Greece………..
This additional support, which aims to address the continuing negative consequences of the ongoing pandemic, raises the overall aid for coastal shipping in 79 million. euro.
In parallel, The support of both sailors and workers in the sector continues.
The measures taken include the following :
– Special purpose compensation, extension of insurance capacity of unemployed seafarers and provision of unemployment benefits.
– Revision of conditions for the registration of unemployed seafarers in the lists offered for enrollment, and
– Coverage of part of the rents of the unemployed sailors.
– Special unemployment benefit for seafarers.
As stated by the Minister of Marine and Island Policy, Mr. John Plakiotakis : "The government continues with a comprehensive plan to implement a series of measures to support both companies, as well as employees.
In this way we ensure on the one hand the protection of work and on the other hand the seamless communication between mainland Greece and our islands ".
