The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe has renewed its Presidency on the occasion of its 40th Session (23-24 March 2021). The elections were held online, in view of the current COVID-19 health crisis..........

Congress members elected Leendert Verbeek (Netherlands, SOC/G/PD) as President. Bernd Vöhringer (Germany, EPP/CCE) was elected President of the Chamber of Local Authorities of the Congress, succeeding Xavier Cadoret (France, SOC/G/DP). John Warmisham (United Kingdom, SOC/G/PD), Xavier Cadoret (France, SOC/G/PD), Konstantinos Koukas (Greece, EPP/CCE), Antonija Jozic (Croatia, EPP/CCE), Martine Dieschburg-Nickels (Luxembourg, ILDG), Emin Yeritsyan (Armenia, EPP/CCE) and Sevdia Ugrekhelidze (Georgia, EPP/CCE) were elected as Vice-Chairpersons.

In the Chamber of Regions of the Congress, Harald Sonderegger (Austria, EPP/CCE) was elected President and succeeds Gunn Marit Helgesen (Norway, EPP/CCE) who becomes Vice-President of the Chamber, together with the elected members, Aleksandra Maletiç, (Serbia, EPP/CCE), Andrei Novikov (Estonia, ILDG), Tunç Soyer (Turkey, SOC/G/PD), Lia Montalti (Italy, SOC/G/PD), Cecilia Dalman Eek (Sweden, SOC/G/PD) and Drozdenko Alexander (Russian Federation, EPP/CCE).

Following the elections in the three committees: Gudrun Mosler-Törnström (Austria, SOC/G/PD), former President of the Congress from 2016 to 2018 became the new Chair of the Monitoring Committee, Jelena Drenjanin (Sweden, EPP/CCE), Chair of the Governance Committee and Thomas Andersson (Sweden/ ILDG), Chair of the Current Affairs Committee.
