Scrapping of pension cuts not a 'bonus' for any Greek party, Moscovici says
The scrapping of pension cuts originally planned for 2019 is not a "pre-election bonus" for any party, European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Pierre Moscovici said in an.....  interview published by the newspaper "Real News" on Sunday. "The Commission does not play political games. You must not see me as either a champion of the government or an opponent of the government; I am only support Greece," he said, adding that he was "fed up" with those suggesting that the Commission was not objective. He stressed that, on the contrary, the European Commission was absolutely unbiased and could be a friend to the Greek people and work well with the Greek government without supporting one party or another. "The only party that we support in Greece are the Greek people themselves and this is above parties," Moscovici added. Commenting on the government's package of positive social measures, he expressed hope that this will also be above party lines "because the Greeks deserve it." Moscovici pointed out that he had been against the proposed pension cuts from the start, explaining that the measure was first proposed in April 2017 as a way of "stopping" an apparent gap between the sum total of social measures and the budget targets.
